A Bit of Whitesville History
Whitesville started life as a crossroads called Boston before being renamed for its founder and incorporated in 1867. A flour mill opened in 1868, and the Owensboro, Falls of the Rough and Green River Railroad reached town in 1889, both real drivers of its early growth. A fire destroyed a block of Main Street businesses in 1911. The town is also the birthplace of David P. Nash, an Army Medal of Honor recipient. Population has held fairly steady for decades, still the second largest incorporated town in the county after Owensboro.
